Sciatica is a condition in which lower back pain is
accompanied by leg pain. The sciatic nerve is one of the largest
nerves in the body, and is comprised of several individual nerves (L4-S4)
that originate from the lower back.
The sciatic nerve can become inflamed or irritated
by a lower back subluxation, disc irritation (bulge or herniation),
or direct pressure on the nerve itself (typically by the piriformis
muscle). For certain certain sciatic conditions an MRI (magnetic
resonance image) is necessary to determine the source of your pain.
